Gluten-free reads

Whether their preference is magazines, cookbooks or memoirs, our gluten-free reads list has something for everyone.

GFF magazine coverGFF Magazine

Have you seen the gorgeous glossy GFF magazine? It’s one of our favorite subscriptions for delicious new recipes from leaders in the gluten-free community. The photos for lasagna, muffins and pies will have you drooling, and your gluten-free loved one will love the tips for staying gluten-free in social settings! It’s the must-have food magazine if you want to eat well and gluten-free. (Think gourmet without the gluten.) Gift a print or digital subscription this season, and get 35% OFF using Nima fan-exclusive code EATWELL at checkout.

The Warm Kitchen by Amy Fothergill

Amy is a trained chef and gluten-free to boot – after finding out her daughter should avoid gluten for health reasons, she totally revamped her kitchen. In “The Warm Kitchen,” Amy shares recipes for every gluten-free family so your breads don’t fall apart, your cookies aren’t too gummy and your cakes are just the right amount of moist! She’s given us baking lessons before, so you can bet her dishes are Nima approved!

Celiac and the Beast by Erica Dermer

Erica Dermer keeps it real, especially when talking about her celiac disease diagnosis. In “Celiac and the Beast,” Erica shares her story going through life with celiac, adapting to the gluten-free diet and more. You’ll laugh, you might cry, but we’re sure you’ll enjoy. Anyone with celiac will find this book very cathartic.

Against All Grain by Danielle Walker

Even if you’re not paleo, Danielle Walker’s recipes will please every palate. You won’t even miss grain in her delectable and unique adaptations of your favorite dishes. “Against All Grain” is the first cookbook of Danielle’s and a great place to start experimenting, but if you haven’t seen her holiday recipe collections or her more recent cookbooks, they’re also worth a read. She is also great at offering modifications for dairy-free, nut-free and other intolerances.

Gluten-free products

Gluten Away

The mother/son Gluten Away team does an amazing gluten-free online expo, and also does terrific gluten-free food baskets with their favorite picks of the month. If you’re based in Florida, you can also attend one of their monthly live expos to try new products and meet others in the local gluten-free community.

Jöne’s Gelato

Gluten-free holiday gift guide: Jone's Gelato Nima testedJöne has struggled with food intolerances and sensitivities and wanted a dessert that she could enjoy too. She also realized the needs of gluten-free, vegan, paleo, and diabetic consumers, so she developed an amazing frozen dessert to meet these needs. Her roasted banana flavor is delish, so dig in!

BlueButterfly GF

We met BlueButterfly founder Lara earlier this year. With the explosion in meal delivery services, she kept hoping for one that could deliver high-quality, gluten-free meals but found options to be limited and boring. So she launched BlueButterfly to do home meal delivery of gluten-free foods. These are made with the freshest, all natural seasonal ingredients (they even make their own sauces and spice mixes to ensure quality) and then shipped out to feed one, two or the whole family. We tested several items at a recent Nima event and got all smiles! For Nima fans, get 30% off four weeks of meals to the first 100 customers in the month of January using code HEALTHY2017NIMA. Applies only to new subscription orders.

Forno de Minas

How do you feel about Pão de Queijo, a.k.a. Brazilian cheese rolls? Made with tapioca starch, milk and egg ingredients, these are an office favorite. They’ve got a $1 off coupon that you can print at home and take to the store.

Allergyscope

Allergyscope provides an easy way to get allergy testing for yourself. The IgE blood tests used at their partner labs are FDA-cleared, clinically relevant and are utilized as a standard in care among allergy physicians. So if your family member has a sneaky suspicion they might have an allergy, give them the gift of knowledge. Use promo code nima to get $15 off any test (exp. 12/31/16).

Gluten-free dining

Give the gift of time and relaxation by treating your gluten-free loved one to a meal out! Nothing puts the happy in holidays like not having to slave over a hot stove all day. And it wouldn’t be a Nima gift guide without talking restaurants. These establishments have been Nima-tested numerous times and would make great locales for holiday dinners or even wise choices for gift cards!

Los Angeles

Hugo’s Restaurant

Hugo's restaurant feastHugo’s is a Los Angeles institution, with a broad menu that can satisfy many dietary needs. We’ve been able to successfully dine with vegan and gluten-free team members. We ran many tests at the Hollywood location, all came up Nima smiles! In fact, we had to ask for some regular bread to show a gluten-found symbol. New York City

Haven’t heard of 99 Bank? That’s because it just opened up at the end of last month. The kitchen is 100% gluten-free, and they are accommodating with all types of dietary needs. Plus, the chef’s name is Nima. Match made in heaven. Check out 99 Bank in Chelsea today!

Senza Gluten

Probably the most well-known gluten-free restaurant in NYC, Senza Gluten is authentic Italian cuisine that tastes like the real, gluten-full thing. This charming, cozy spot is a Nima fan favorite, and the chicken parmigiana is to die for. But really, you can’t go wrong with anything on this menu. Stay for dessert so you don’t miss the GF tiramisu!

Hu Kitchen

Not only is Hu Kitchen gluten-free, but it’s also refined sugar-free, soy-free, preservative-free and…well the list goes on and on. Hu Kitchen is great for the gluten-free person on-the-go, as you can grab any number of breakfasts, lunches or dinners and take them on the road, or work at the coffee bar with Wi-Fi and a paleo muffin (try the chocolate!). Indulge in the egg paleo bagel sandwich, and look out for daily specials like flatbread pizzas and ahi tuna burgers. Their chocolate would make a great hostess gift! We’re hoping Santa brings Hu out to San Francisco because we crave it on the daily.

Even though there are only a few days left until the holiday, you can still give an amazing gift for the special gluten-free person in your life. Happy holidays everyone!
