Gluten-free Albuquerque: A #nimatested Dining Guide

Gluten-free Albuquerque

This Albuquerque city guide was brought to you by Nima community member Emma W. Make sure to check out her other #nimatested adventures on her Instagram (Gluten Free Albuquerque).

If you’re thinking about visiting Albuquerque, New Mexico this summer don’t forget to ride the tram to the top of the Sandia Mountains, visit the BioPark, check out the Petroglyph National Monument, and enjoy these delicious restaurants! Albuquerque has a lot of options for gluten-free diners so you’ll never feel hungry or left out at mealtime. Bring your Nima Sensor, sit back and relax, and enjoy the clear blue skies and 280 days of sunshine!

La Crêpe Michel

Gluten-free Albuquerque

Location: Old Town

#nimatested Dishes: French Onion Soup, Salmon in Champagne Sauce, and Crepe David (in a buckwheat crepe)

Notes: My favorite restaurant in Albuquerque, Crêpe Michel can be relaxed or formal but make a reservation on the weekend. There is no gluten-free menu but if you inform your waiter they will be sure to help you choose the right food. I recommend ordering dinner from the specials menu rather than the regular menu, except for the French onion soup which is the best I’ve ever had.

Sweet Nothings Gluten Free Bakery and Cafe

Gluten-free Albuquerque

Location: Northeast Heights

#nimatested Dish: Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich to-go!

Notes: Run by a mother and daughter who also have Celiac Disease, this bakery has the best GF bread I’ve ever had. I love to come here for a breakfast sandwich, but their raspberry bars are amazing too!  Don’t forget to stop by on Saturday mornings for waffles.

Rad[ish]

Gluten-free Albuquerque

Location: Downtown

#nimatested Dish: Red Chile Encheatladas and CuppyCakes

Notes: Rad[ish] is the best fast food option in ABQ!  Their kitchen is gluten-free so you can feel comfortable indulging in anything on the menu. Choose the meal you want from the fridge and either pop it in the microwave there or take a few to-go. Even better, all of the ingredients are super fresh and REAL so you can feel good about what you’re eating.

Paisano’s Italian Restaurant

Gluten-free Albuquerque

Location: Uptown

#nimatested Dish: Garlic Bread, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Chocolate Molten Lava Cake

Notes: This Italian restaurant isn’t entirely gluten-free, but when you come in the first thing they ask is “is anyone here gluten-free?” and then they mark your table with a GF sign. They are very knowledgeable, the GF menu is distinct and red, and they mark the GF dishes with toothpicks. All of this means you get a delicious Italian dinner without stressing about your food. The best part is the extensive dessert menu that is entirely gluten-free, so save room for dessert!!

Campo

Gluten-free Albuquerque

Location: Los Ranchos de Albuquerque

#nimatested Dish: Breakfast Cazuela and Toast

Notes: Campo is an upscale option for farm to table dining and it is located on a gorgeous lavender farm called Los Poblanos. To get there it’s a short drive from anywhere in the city but it feels like another world. We went for breakfast and our waitress was knowledgeable and able to help pick out gluten-free dishes that were incredibly good. Expect crowds for breakfast on the weekends, and reservations are required for dinner.

Zendo and Planty Sweet

Gluten-free Albuquerque

Location: Downtown

#nimatested Dishes: Zia White Chocolate Latte and Planty Sweet Donuts

Notes: Zendo is a locally owned coffee shop with delicious drinks you know and love, as well as new favorites to try. I recommend their Zia White Chocolate Latte which is a latte with cinnamon added. Even better, Zendo sells Planty Sweet donuts (which are kept in a separate case and are handled with separate tongs). Planty Sweet is a local gluten-free and vegan bakery that doesn’t have a storefront, so make sure to go by Zendo for an awesome coffee and to try these donuts!

Grassburger

Gluten-free Albuquerque

Location: Northeast Heights

#nimatested Dishes: Bacon Cheeseburger on a GF Bun and Sweet Potato Fries

Notes: Grassburger is an excellent choice if you’re craving a really good burger. They are very careful with cross contamination and have a gluten-free fryer for the french fries.

Zacatecas

Gluten-free Albuquerque

Location: Nob Hill

#nimatested Dishes: Corn Tortilla, Queso Fundido with Chorizo, and Fish Taco

Notes: Zacatecas is known for their tacos, queso, and an amazing tequila menu. Their menu is almost entirely gluten-free, just don’t eat anything fried (including the chips) since there is cross contamination in the fryer.  Zacatecas is a laid back atmosphere and they have huge garage doors that open in the summer for enjoying the beautiful weather here.
